It can be argued thatblack is different from these other terms because it was derived from an adjective rather than from a proper name. However, a precedent exists for the capitalization of adjectives used to denote specific groups,as in theReds and the Whites (of the Russian Civil War) or the Greens (the European political party). The capitalization ofBlack does raise ancillary problems for the treatment of the term white. Orthographic evenhandedness would seem to require the use of the uppercase formWhite, but this form might be taken to imply that whites constitute a single ethnic group,an issue that is certainly debatable. On the other hand, the use of the lowercase formwhite in the same context as the uppercase form Black will obviously raise questions as to how and why the writer has distinguished between the two groups. There is no entirely happy solution to this problem. In all likelihood, uncertainty as to the mode of styling ofwhite has dissuaded many publications from adopting the capitalized form Black. See Usage Note at color White 书写方式的不确定性很可能已经使许多出版物不再采用大写形式的 Black 参见 color〔conduct〕A neutral team from the United Nations will observe the elections to be sure that they are conducted fairly. 〔passionless〕Unbiased or impartial; detached:公正的:不偏袒的或公正的;超然的:〔right〕According to law, morality, or justice.正直地,正当地,公正地:符合法律,道德或正义地〔injustice〕iūstus [just] * see just 1iūstus [公正] * 参见 just1〔candid〕Free from prejudice; impartial.公正的:不囿于偏见的;公正〔deal〕a raw deal; a fair deal.交易上不公平的待遇;交易上公正的待遇〔justice〕The upholding of what is just, especially fair treatment and due reward in accordance with honor, standards, or law. 公平:凭事实或公正〔hard〕Free from illusion or bias; practical:公正的,实际的:抛开幻想和偏见的;实际的:〔orb〕A globe surmounted by a cross, used as a symbol of monarchial power and justice.权球:顶上装有一个十字架并象征着群权和公正的球〔even〕Just; fair:公正的,公平的;正当的:〔fair〕"a just and lasting peace" (Abraham Lincoln).“公正持久的和平” (亚伯拉罕·林肯)。〔blame〕The police laid the blame for the accident squarely on the driver's shoulders. 〔equity〕The state, quality, or ideal of being just, impartial, and fair.公正:公平、不偏袒、公正的状态、性质或理想、观念〔script〕"the brilliant, charming, judicial moderate scripted by his White House fans"(Ellen Goodman)“被他的白宫迷们编造成的一个有才气的,迷人的,公正的稳健派人物”(埃伦·古德曼)〔value〕An amount, as of goods, services, or money, considered to be a fair and suitable equivalent for something else; a fair price or return.价值:被认为与其他事物公平的、合适的且相等的数量,例如物品、服务或金钱;公正的价格或收益〔interfere〕"He began another practice, to tamper with the justices" (John Strype). (约翰·斯特赖普)〔indifferent〕Characterized by a lack of partiality; unbiased:中立的,公正的:具有无偏向性特点的;没有偏见的:〔justice〕The subject is so complex that I cannot do justice to it in a brief survey.
