单词 幸运
释义 〔speed〕The fable of the tortoise and the hare teaches us that speed does not always spell success.Historically in English, however, it does:the Old English wordspēd, from which our word speed is descended, originally meant "prosperity, successful outcome, ability, or quickness.” A corresponding verb,spēdan, in Modern English the verbspeed, meant "to succeed, prosper, or achieve a goal"; and an adjective,spēdig, the ancestor of our word speedy, meant "wealthy, powerful.” Except for archaic usesthe words today relate only to the general sense of "velocity.”The meaning "success" is retained chiefly in the compoundGodspeed, a noun formed from the phrase meaning "God prosper you.” “成功”之意主要保留于Godspeed (成功、幸运、天惠) 这个词中, 这是一个来自词组“祝你成功”的一个名词〔felicific〕Latin fēlix fēlīc- [fortunate] * see dhē(i)- 拉丁语 fēlix fēlīc- [幸运,带来运气的人] * 参见 dhē(i)- 〔prosper〕To be fortunate or successful, especially in terms of one's finances; thrive.繁盛,成功:幸运或成功的,尤对某人财富而言;繁盛〔felicitate〕from fēlīx fēlīc- [fortunate] * see dhē(i)- 源自 fēlīx fēlīc- [好运气,幸运] * 参见 dhē(i)- 〔luck〕The chance happening of fortunate or adverse events; fortune:幸运,运气:好运或相反的事件碰巧发生;运气:〔so〕So is frequently used in informal speech to string together the elements of a narrative. This practice should not be carried over into formal writing, where the absence of contextual information generally requires that connections be made more explicit. ·Critics have sometimes objected to the use ofso as an intensive meaning "to a great degree or extent,” as inWe were so relieved to learn that the deadline had been extended. This usage is most common in informal contexts, perhaps because unlike the neutralvery, it presumes that the listener or reader will be sympathetic with the speaker's evaluation of the situation. (Thus one would be more apt to sayIt was so unfair of them not to invite you than to sayIt was so fortunate that I didn't have to put up with your company. ) For just this reason, the construction may occasionally be used to good effect in more formal contexts to invite the reader to take the point of view of the speaker or subject: 在非正式的讲话中,so 经常被用来连接叙述的成分。 正因为这个原因,这个结构有时在正式的文章中也有很好的作用,使读者接受说话人或主题的观点: 〔mercy〕Something for which to be thankful; a blessing:恩惠,幸运:应对之表示感谢的事物;恩惠:〔fortuitous〕Happening by a fortunate accident or chance.幸运地发生的:因某种幸运事件或机会而发生的〔schlimazel〕mázl [luck] from Hebrew mazzāl mázl [幸运] 源自 希伯来语 mazzāl 〔mercy〕It was a mercy that no one was hurt.没有人受伤真是幸运〔wish〕I wish them luck.我向他们祝愿幸运〔luck〕lucked into a good apartment; lucked out in finding that rare book.幸运地住进好公寓;凭幸运发现那本珍贵的书〔happy〕The central meaning shared by these adjectives is "attended by luck or good fortune": 这些形容词所共有的中心意思是“伴随着幸运或好运气”: 〔serendipity〕The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.易遇奇缘的运气:有意外的幸运发现的本领
