单词 广播公司
释义 〔Sarnoff〕American radio and television pioneer who proposed the first commercial radio receiver and in 1926 formed the National Broadcasting Company.萨尔诺夫,戴维:(1891-1971) 美国广播电视业的先驱,最先提出商业广播接收器计划,1926年建立全国广播公司〔CBC〕Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.加拿大广播公司〔network〕A company that produces the programs for these stations.广播公司:播送广播或电视节目的公司〔report〕To serve as a reporter for a publication, broadcasting company, or other news media.当记者:作为某个刊物、广播公司或其它新闻媒介的记者〔apartheid〕Although South Africa has not furnished a great number of words that have achieved general currency in British and American English, one in particular, apartheid, has gained wide circulation. The first recorded use ofapartheid as an English term, in the Cape Times on October 24, 1947, is an ironic commentary on much of the word's use since then: "Mr. Hofmeyr said apartheid could not be reconciled with a policy of progress and prosperity for South Africa.” According to the March 15, 1961, issue of theLondon Times, the wordself-development was supposed to replace apartheid as the official term used by the South African Broadcasting Corporation for "the Government's race policies. ” And inMove Your Shadow, published in 1985, Joseph Lelyveld says that the "word is [now] shunned, even resented by the [National Party's] high priests as if it were an epithet fashioned by the country's enemies.” Butapartheid as a word and as a reality has been slow to disappear. The history ofapartheid, however, offers a possible model for change in this policy, for the word is an example of a mixture and combination of resources, in this case linguistic.Apartheid is an English word that came into South African English from Afrikaans, the language of the Dutch settlers of South Africa. They in turn had made up the word from the Dutch wordapart, "separate,” and the suffix -heid, which corresponds to our suffix -hood. Thusapartheid literally means "separateness.” The Dutch had earlier borrowed the wordapart, as did we, from the French phrase à part, meaning "to one side.” 荷兰人较早地借用了apart 一词,就如我们从法语里借用了意为“到一边”的 a part 一样 〔Brinkley〕American radio and television news broadcaster. During his career with the National Broadcasting Company (1943-1981), he served as co-anchor of their nightly newscast (1956-1970). In 1981, he joined the American Broadcasting Company as a political commentator.布尔克莱,戴维:美国广播及电视播报员。服务于国家广播公司期间(1943年-1981年),他担任晚间新闻的共同主持人(1956年-1970年)。1981年他加入美国广播公司,担任政治评论员〔Walters〕American television newscaster and reporter. After working for the National Broadcasting Company (1963-1976), she joined the American Broadcasting Company (1976-1979) and became the first woman to anchor the nightly news on network television.华特丝,芭芭拉:美国电视新闻广播员以及记者。1963至1976年间为国家广播公司工作,随后加入美国广播公司(1976-1979年)并成为第一位主持电视网夜间新闻的女性
