单词 弱点
释义 〔frailty〕A fault, especially weakness of resolution, arising from the imperfections of human nature.See Synonyms at fault 弱点:源于人性的缺点或过失,尤指意志不坚定 参见 fault〔point〕Diplomacy is certainly not one of his strong points. Your weak point is your constant need for approval.外交显然不是他的特长。你的弱点是你总是需要得到别人的同意才有信心〔crack〕A mental or physical impairment; a defect.缺陷:脑力或体力上的弱点;缺陷〔artifice〕Wile suggests deceiving and entrapping a victim by playing on his or her weak points: Wile 指利用他或她的弱点来达到欺骗和诱使受骗者上当: 〔incapacity〕A defect or handicap; a disability.缺陷; 残疾:缺点或弱点;残疾〔pander〕To cater to the lower tastes and desires of others or exploit their weaknesses:迎合:迎合别人的低级趣味或欲望或利用他们的弱点〔legible〕legible weaknesses in character and disposition.性格和脾气上很明显的弱点〔vice〕A physical defect or weakness.身体上的缺陷或者弱点〔tragedy〕A drama or literary work in which the main character is brought to ruin or suffers extreme sorrow, especially as a consequence of a tragic flaw, a moral weakness, or an inability to cope with unfavorable circumstances.悲剧:戏剧或文学作品,其中的主要人物走向毁灭或遭受极端的痛苦,尤其是因悲剧性缺陷、道德弱点或无力应付不利环境而造成的后果〔naked〕"naked to mine enemies"(Shakespeare)“在我的敌人面前暴露弱点”(莎士比亚)〔infirmity〕A failing or defect in a person's character.缺点,弱点:人的意志品质中的缺陷或薄弱之处〔pamper〕 Coddle andmollycoddle point to tender, overprotective care that often leads to weakening of character: Coddle 和mollycoddle 是指顾虑多的,过分保护导致性格上的弱点〔blatant〕 Certain contexts may admit either word depending on what is meant:a violation of international law might be eitherblatant or flagrant. But writers who refer tothe blatant torturing of animals or the flagrant liberal bias of the media have implied something other than what they presumably intended. In the first case, the writer is probably more troubled by the enormity of the mistreatment of animals than by the failure to conceal it,so thatflagrant would have been the better choice. In the second case, by contrast, the writer probably wants to draw attention to a moral failing in the media's unapologetic refusal to hide its bias, rather than to the iniquity of the bias itself,an implication that would have been conveyed more successfully byblatant. Blatant should not be used to mean simply "obvious,”as inthe blatant danger of such an approach. 某些语境下两个词都可以用,但意思不同:对国际法律的违反既可能是blatant(公然的) 也可能是 flagrant(无耻的)。 但是提到the blatant torturing of animals(肆无忌惮地虐待动物) 或者 the flagrant liberal bias of the media(媒体公然的、不严谨的偏见) 的作者已经暗示了他们本来意图以外的意思。 在第一种情况下,作者可能对大量虐待动物的行为所困扰而不是为隐藏这种行为的失败而困扰,因此flagrant 应该是更好的选择。 相反地,在第二种情况下,作者可能是要着重指出新闻媒介对其偏见一概否认的这种道德上弱点,而不是针对偏见本身的不公正性,这种含义若由blatant来表达的话会更加正确。 Blatant 不应仅仅表示“明显的”,就象在the blatant danger of such an approach(这种方法明显的危险性)中。 〔proud〕"We hardly know an instance of the strength and weakness of human nature so striking and so grotesque as the character of this haughty, vigilant, resolute, sagacious blue-stocking [Frederick the Great] ” (Macaulay).“我们几乎找不到一个人性的力量和弱点象这个高傲、机警、坚定、智慧的女学者的性格那样如此醒目和怪异的例子 ” (麦考莱)。〔foible〕A minor weakness or failing of character.See Synonyms at fault 弱点,小缺点:性格上小的弱点或缺点 参见 fault〔weakness〕A personal defect or failing.See Synonyms at fault 弱点:个人不足或缺点 参见 fault
