Its first recorded occurrence is found in a work composed around 1300,the word having come into Middle English (assoudier ) from Old French soudoior and Anglo-Norman soudeour. The Old French word, first recorded in the 12th century,is derived fromsol or soud, Old French forms of Modern French sou. There is no longer a French coin namedsou, but the meaning of the wordsou alerts us to the fact that money is involved. Indeed, Old Frenchsol referred to a coin and also meant "pay,”and asoudoior was a man who fought for pay. This was a concept worth expressing in an era when many men were not paid for fighting but did it in service to a feudal superior.Thussoldier is parallel to the word mercenary, which goes back to Latinmercēnnārius, derived frommerces, "pay,” and meaning "working for pay.”The word could also be used as a noun, one of whose senses was "a soldier of fortune.” 这个词也能当名词使用,其中的一个意思是“雇佣兵”〔McJob〕A job, usually in the retail or service sector, that is low paying, often temporary, and offers minimal or no benefits or opportunity for promotion.麦当劳工作,临时工:通常是零售或服务业内的工作,报酬低,经常是临时性的,提供极少甚至没有福利或晋升机会〔soldier〕from Late Latin solidum, soldum [pay] 源自 后期拉丁语 solidum, soldum [报酬] 〔underemployed〕Inadequately employed, especially employed at a low-paying job that requires less skill or training than one possesses.未按专长雇佣的:从事技术性过低的工作因而报酬过低的〔if〕She will play the piano only if she is paid.只有付给她报酬,她才愿意演奏钢琴〔fix〕An instance of arranging a special consideration, such as an exemption from a requirement, or an improper or illegal outcome, especially by means of bribery.贿赂,串通:安排特殊报酬的实例,尤指通过贿赂手段免除某种要求或不正当的、非法的结果〔mail〕Rent, payment, or tribute.租金、报酬或贡金〔honorarium〕A payment given to a professional person for services for which fees are not legally or traditionally required.酬金,谢礼:对专业人士的服务所付报酬,而从法律或传统上来说这种服务不应收费〔return〕To produce or yield (profit or interest) as a payment for labor, investment, or expenditure.获利,生息:生产制造或产生(利润或收益)以支付作为劳动力、投资或开销的报酬〔work〕"Which of us . . . is to do the hard and dirty work for the rest—and for what pay?” (John Ruskin). “我们中的哪 一个…会为其他人干又脏又累的活——或以什么为报酬呢?” (约翰·罗斯金)。 〔remunerate〕To pay (a person) a suitable equivalent in return for goods provided, services rendered, or losses incurred; recompense.报酬:给(一个人)和所供的货物,提供的服务或者发生的损失相等的数目合适的钱;报偿〔overpay〕To pay (a party) too much.付给某人过多:给(某团体)过高报酬〔professional〕Performed by persons receiving pay:职业性的:接受金钱报酬的人们从事的:〔guerdon〕lōn [reward] * see lau- lōn [报酬] * 参见 lau- 〔mercy〕from Latin [reward] 源自 拉丁语 [报酬] 〔premium〕Payment for training in a trade or profession.学费:为行业或职业培训所付的报酬〔bounty〕A reward, inducement, or payment, especially one given by a government for acts deemed beneficial to the state, such as killing predatory animals, growing certain crops, starting certain industries, or enlisting for military service.See Synonyms at bonus 奖励:报酬、奖励或酬劳,尤指政府因对某种被视为有益于国家的行为而给予的奖励,如捕杀野兽、种植某些农作物、开办某些实业或参军等 参见 bonus〔job〕A specific piece of work to be done for a set fee:活儿,零活:一件报酬固定的具体工作:〔prize〕Alteration of Middle English pris [value, price, reward] * see price 中古英语 pris的变化 [价值,价格,报酬] * 参见 price〔receivable〕Suitable for being received or accepted, especially as payment.可接收的:适合于被接收的或被接收的,尤指报酬〔prostitute〕One who solicits and accepts payment for sex acts.妓女或男娼:拉客并接受性行为报酬的人〔job〕A regular activity performed in exchange for payment, especially as one's trade, occupation, or profession.工作:为换取报酬而进行的日常活动,尤指作为某人的手艺、行业或职业的工作〔honest〕honest wages for an honest day's work.一天的诚实劳动所获的公平报酬〔pay〕Money given in return for work done; salary; wages.酬金,工资:做工作而获得的报酬;工资;周薪〔wage〕Often wages (used with a sing. or pl. verb)A fitting return; a recompense: 常作 wages (与单数或复数动词连用)报酬:合适的报酬;酬劳:〔recompense〕Payment in return for something, such as a service.报酬:对某事物,如某项服务,而回报的酬金〔plump〕a plump reward.一份可观的报酬〔guild〕from Old Norse gildi [payment, guild] 源自 古斯堪的纳维亚语 gildi [报酬,行会] |
