单词 | 欢呼 |
释义 | 〔shivaree〕Shivaree is the most common American regional form of charivari, a French word meaning "a noisy mock serenade for newlyweds"and probably deriving in turn from a Late Latin word meaning "headache.”The term, most likely borrowed from French traders and settlers along the Mississippi River, was well established in the United States by 1805;an account dating from that year describes a shivaree in New Orleans: "The house is mobbed by thousands of the people of the town, vociferating and shouting with loud acclaim . . . many[are] in disguises and masks; and all have some kind of discordant and noisy music, such as old kettles, and shovels, and tongs. . . . All civil authority and rule seems laid aside" (John F. Watson). The wordshivaree is especially common along and west of the Mississippi River, giving it an unusual north-south dialect boundary (most dialect boundaries run east-west in the United States).Alva L. Davis and Raven I. McDavid, Jr., callshivaree "one of the most widely distributed folk terms borrowed by American English from any European language.” Some regional equivalents arebelling, used in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio; horning, from upstate New York, Rhode Island, and western New England; andserenade, a term used chiefly in the South Atlantic states. 一阵欢呼声:迸发出的一阵掌声或欢呼〔crow〕To exult loudly, as over another's defeat; boast.See Synonyms at boast 1欢呼,吹嘘:因打败他人而欢呼;吹嘘 参见 boast1〔hail〕The act of greeting or acclaiming.欢呼:问候或欢迎的动作〔whoop〕conventioneers whooping it up for their candidate.与会人员为他们的侯选人欢呼〔cheerlead〕To lead organized cheering, as at sports events.带领大家一起欢呼,如在体育比赛时〔hailer〕One that greets, acclaims, or catches someone's attention.打招呼的人,欢呼的人,引起某人注意的人〔applaud〕cheered when the home team scored;当主队得分时欢呼;〔hip〕Usually used to begin a cheer:嘿:经常用于欢呼前:〔root〕To give audible encouragement or applause to a contestant or team; cheer.See Synonyms at applaud 欢呼或鼓掌:为参赛者或参赛的球队鼓气;喝彩 参见 applaud〔jubilate〕Latin iūbilāre iūbilāt- [to raise a shout of joy] 拉丁语 iūbilāre iūbilāt- [发出欢乐的喊声,欢呼] 〔acclamation〕from acclāmātus [past participle of] acclāmāre [to shout at] * see acclaim 源自 acclāmātus acclāmāre的过去分词 [向…欢呼] * 参见 acclaim〔banzai〕A Japanese battle cry or patriotic cheer.万岁:日本人在进攻时的呐喊或爱国的欢呼〔yell〕A rhythmic cheer uttered or chanted in unison by a group:欢呼声:一群人同时发出的带节奏的欢呼:〔hail〕To greet or acclaim enthusiastically:喝彩,欢呼:热情地问候或欢呼:〔whoop〕To express or arouse enthusiasm; cheer:大肆宣扬,捧场:表达激情,激起热情;欢呼:〔exultant〕Marked by great joy or jubilation; triumphant.狂喜的:以极度高兴或欢呼为特征的;得意洋洋的的〔whoop〕A loud cry of exultation or excitement.高喊,欢呼:因狂喜或激动发出的大声叫喊〔Jubilate〕from Latin iūbilātē [second person pl. imperative of] iūbilāre [to raise a shout of joy, the first word of the psalm] 源自 拉丁语 iūbilātē iūbilāre的祈使语气动词的第二人称复数 [欢呼,诗篇中的第一个词] 〔viva〕Used to express acclamation, salute, or applause.万岁:用于表达欢呼、敬意和鼓掌的〔too〕It wasn't too long ago that deregulation was being hailed as the savior of the savings and loan industry.直到不久前,违反常规还被人们欢呼为挽救存款和贷款业的好方法。〔cockalorum〕of obsolete Flemish kockeloeren [to crow] 已废佛兰芒语 kockeloeren的变化 [欢呼] 〔eat〕To receive or enjoy enthusiastically or avidly:贪婪地吸收,为…欢呼:极热情地接受或贪婪地享用:〔acclamation〕A shout or salute of enthusiastic approval.欢呼,喝彩:表示赞同的欢呼或敬礼〔gazillion〕"The crowd cheered wildly . . . as gazillions of balloons poured down from the rafters"(Tom Shales)“群众疯狂欢呼…当无数的汽球自椽中倾泄而出”(汤姆·夏乐)〔jubilee〕alteration influenced by iubilāre [to raise a shout of joy] 受 iubilāre的影响 [发出欢乐的喊声,欢呼] 〔clap〕To come together suddenly with a sharp sound.欢呼:突然一起发出尖锐的声音〔enter〕As the President entered, the band played "Hail to the Chief.”当总统进来时,乐队开始演奏“向领袖欢呼”〔hurrah〕To applaud, cheer, or approve (someone or something) by shouting "hurrah.”向…叫好,为…喝彩:喊“好哇”以(对某人或某物)表示赞同,欢呼或喝采〔acclaim〕Enthusiastic applause; acclamation.热情的称赞;欢呼〔heyday〕Perhaps alteration of heyda [exclamation of pleasure] 可能为 heyda的变化 [欢呼] 〔jubilant〕Latin iūbilāns iūbilant- [present participle of] iūbilāre [to raise a shout of joy] 拉丁语 iūbilāns iūbilant- iūbilāre的现在分词 [发出欢乐的喊声,欢呼] 〔Jubilate〕A song or an outburst of joy and triumph.欢乐歌,欢呼:表达欢乐或胜利的歌曲或欢呼声〔yodel〕from German dialectal jo [exclamation of delight] 源自 德语方言 jo [欢呼] 〔ovation〕Enthusiastic, prolonged applause.热烈鼓掌,欢呼:热烈、持久的鼓掌〔pass〕The band passed and the crowd cheered.乐队经过时人群欢呼起来 |
