If the verbdicker originated in the fur trade, a parallel would exist with the noundicker. The noun may have come into the Germanic languages and hence to English by way of trade or tribute in furs between the Germanic peoples and the Roman Empire, with the Germanic word coming from the Latin worddecuria, "a group of ten men,” which in Late Latin was used as a measure of skins. The difficulty with this parallel isthat no existing evidence proves conclusively the derivation of the verbdicker from the noun dicker. 但是对于这种并行的困难是,没有现成的证据确凿地证明动词dicker 是从名词 dicker 中衍生来的 〔rock〕Our accountant says the business is on the rocks.我们的会计师说生意濒临破产〔meatpacking〕The business or activity of slaughtering animals and preparing the meat for sale. 现在生意不景气〔tovarich〕ishchi [one who works] from ish [work, business] ishchi [工作的人] 源自 ish [工作,生意] 〔tobacconist〕A dealer in tobacco and smoking supplies.烟草商:一个做烟草和吸烟用品生意的商人〔possible〕"As soon as it was practicable, he would wind up his business" (George Eliot).“一旦可行,他也将结束他的生意” (乔治·艾略特)。〔press〕The haste or urgency of business or matters.事态紧迫:生意或事务的急促或紧急〔nurture〕nursed the fledgling business through an economic downturn. 经济衰退中精心料理刚起步的生意 〔removal〕Relocation, as of a residence or business. 合法的生意经营〔farm〕To turn over (a business, for example) to another in return for the payment of a fixed sum.包出:转让(如生意)给另一单位,条件是收取固定金额作为回报〔sell〕To offer for sale, as for one's business or livelihood:经销:为某人的生意或生计出售:〔big〕made it big with their recent best-selling album.他们最近的畅销唱片生意取得很大成功〔remove〕To change one's place of residence or business; move:搬迁:改变住宅或生意的地点;搬家:〔injure〕Worrying about business spoiled our evening. 由于对生意的担心,我整个晚上都给毁掉了 〔ground〕designed the house from the ground up; learned the family business from the ground up.重新设计这所房子;从头学习家族生意〔lapidary〕A dealer in precious or semiprecious stones.玉石商:做珍贵的宝石或准宝石生意的人〔volume〕a low volume of business; a considerable volume of lumber.
