单词 询问
释义 〔inquisition〕from inquīsītus [past participle of] inquīrere [to inquire] * see inquire 源自 inquīsītus inquīrere的过去分词 [询问] * 参见 inquire〔history〕from historein [to inquire] 源自 historein [询问] 〔quiz〕To question closely or repeatedly; interrogate.盘问:仔细或重复地询问;质问〔implicature〕The aspect of meaning that a speaker conveys, implies, or suggests without directly expressing. Although the utterance"Can you pass the salt?” is literally a request for information about one's ability to pass salt, the understood implicature is a request for salt. 言下之意:此方面意义指的是说话者并非以直接表达的方式传达、意指、或是建议某件事情,虽然"Can you pass the salt?” 字面上指的是询问有关某人是否有能力递盐的讯息,但我们所了解的言下之意却只是对盐的需求 〔derogate〕rogāre [to ask] * see reg- rogāre [询问] * 参见 reg- 〔scrutiny〕from Latin scrūtinium [inquiry, search] 源自 拉丁语 scrūtinium [询问,搜寻] 〔Kuhn〕American philosopher and historian best known for his workThe Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962), in which he challenged the view that the history of science is a smooth and cumulative process, arguing instead that scientific change occurs through "revolutions" in which one paradigm of inquiry and explanation is replaced by another. 库恩,托马斯·塞缪尔:美国哲学家及历史学家,以其作品《科学革命的结构》 (1962年)著称于世,在书中他质疑科学的历史有着平顺及累积培养过程的观点,取而代之主张科学变化的发生是经过"革命"而来的,一种询问及解释的典范被另外一种所取代 〔seek〕seek directions from a police officer. 向警官询问方向〔referee〕One to whom something is referred, especially for settlement, decision, or an opinion as to the thing's quality.被问询者:特别是为了解决、决定或对某物质量的看法而被询问的人〔inquisitive〕Unduly curious and inquiring.See Synonyms at curious 好奇的,好询问的 参见 curious〔question〕from *quaestus [past participle of] quaerere [to ask, seek] 源自 *quaestus quaerere的过去分词 [询问,追寻] 〔inquisitor〕One who inquires or makes an inquisition, especially a questioner who is excessively rigorous or harsh.调查人:询问或进行调查者,尤指非常严厉或粗暴的质问者〔reason〕inquired about her reason for leaving.询问她离开的理由〔jumble〕The rapid-fire questioning jumbled the witness's thoughts.一连串的询问扰乱了证人的思路〔ask〕inquired about her health.询问她的健康情况。〔ask〕Query usually suggests questioning to settle a doubt: Query 常含有询问以解除疑团的意思: 〔rogatory〕from Latin rogātus [past participle of] rogāre [to ask] * see reg- 源自 拉丁语 rogātus rogāre的过去分词 [询问,问] * 参见 reg- 〔hinder〕"Do not block the way of inquiry" (Charles S. Peirce).“不要妨碍询问” (查尔斯·S·派尔斯)。〔doubt〕That is also the usual choice when the truth of the clause following doubt is assumed, as in negative sentences and questions. ThusI never doubted for a minute that I would be rescued implies "I was certain that I would be rescued.” By the same token,Do you doubt that you will be paid? seems to pose a rhetorical question ("Surely you believe that you will be paid"), whereasDo you doubt whether you will be paid? may express a genuine request for information and might be followed bybecause if you do, you should make the client post a bond. In other cases, however, this distinction betweenwhether and that is not always observed, andthat is frequently used as a substitute for whether. If may also be used as a substitute forwhether but is more informal in tone. ·In informal speech the clause followingdoubt is sometimes introduced with but: I don't doubt but (or but what ) he will come. Reputable precedent exists for this construction,as in"I do not doubt but England is at present as polite a Nation as any in the World" (Richard Steele),but modern critics sometimes object to its use in formal writing.See Usage Note at but ,if 在否定句及疑问句中当doubt 后的从句所作陈述被认为是真时,用 that 。 I don't doubt but (或 but what ) he will come。 这种结构有其先例且属规范用法,如“我不怀疑目前的英格兰象世界上其他国家一样是礼义之邦” (理查德·斯蒂尔),但现代评论家有时反对在正式文体中这样使用 参见 but,if〔examine〕To determine the qualifications, aptitude, or skills of by means of questions or exercises.考试,测验:通过询问或练习的方式来测定资格、才能或技巧〔advertise〕To inquire or seek in a public notice, as in a newspaper:登广告:在公告,如报纸上询问或寻找:〔tracer〕An investigation or inquiry organized to trace missing goods or persons.追踪调查:为查找失踪物品或人员而组织的调查或询问〔poll〕To question in a survey; canvass.在调查中询问;民意测验〔price〕spent the day pricing dresses.花一整天询问衣服的价格〔consistency〕questioned the consistency of the administration's actions with its stated policy.询问管理部门的行动是否与其宣称的政策相符合〔besiege〕To harass or importune, as with requests:如被询问纠缠或强求:〔price〕To find out the price of:问价格:询问或查询出…的价格:〔copacetic〕We know very little about the origin of the wordcopacetic, meaning "excellent, first-rate.” Is its origin to be found in Italian, in the speech of southern Black people, in the Creole French dialect of Louisiana, or in Hebrew?John O'Hara, who used the word inAppointment in Samarra, later wrote thatcopacetic was "a Harlem and gangster corruption of an Italian word.” O'Hara went on to say, "I don't know how to spell the Italian, but it's something like copacetti.” His uncertainty about how to spell the Italian is paralleled by uncertainty about how to spellcopacetic itself. Copacetic has been recorded with the spellings copasetic, copasetty, copesetic, copisettic, and kopasettee. The spelling is now more or less fixed, however, ascopacetic or copasetic, even though the origin of the word has not been determined. The Harlem connection mentioned by O'Hara would seem more likely than the Italian, sincecopacetic was used by Black jazz musicians and is said to have been Southern slang in the late 19th century. Ifcopacetic is Creole French in origin, it would also have a Southern homeland.According to this explanation, copacetic came from the Creole French word coupersètique, which meant "able to be coped with,” "able to cope with anything and everything,” "in good form,”and also "having a healthy appetite or passion for life or love.”Those who support the Hebrew or Yiddish origin ofcopacetic do not necessarily deny the Southern connections of the word. One explanation has it that Jewish storekeepers used the Hebrew phrasekol bĕṣedeq, "all with justice,”when asked if things were O.K. Black children who were in the store as customers or employees heard this phrase ascopacetic. No explanation of the origin ofcopacetic, including the ones discussed here, has won the approval of scholars, as is clearly shown by the etymology ofcopacetic in the first volume of the Dictionary of American Regional English, published in 1985: "Etym unknown.” 询问报告:询问、盘问或汇报执行任务的情况〔ask〕To make inquiry; seek information.询求;询问…的信息〔question〕An expression of inquiry that invites or calls for a reply.问题:征求或要求回答的询问的词句〔silent〕"He must be warned prior to any questioning that he has the right to remain silent" (Earl Warren).在进行任何询问之前,他必须事先被告知他有保持沉默的权利” (厄尔·沃伦)。〔ask〕inquired where the books were kept;询问这些书在哪里放着;〔unquestioned〕Not subjected to questioning; not interrogated.未受调查的:未被询问的;未被审问的〔mayday〕"Mayday, mayday!” comes the international distress signal over the radio, and nobody stops to ask why the first of May is being mentioned at a time of crisis.Mayday, in fact, has nothing to do with the first of May. Instead, it is a spelling that represents the pronunciation of Frenchm'aidez, "help me,” or the latter part of the phrase venez m'aider, "come help me,” either of which are quite appropriate at such a critical juncture.“救命,救命!”无线电接收机中传来国际遇险呼救信号,总有人询问为何在危急时刻使用五月的第一天作为信号。实际上,Mayday 和五月份的第一天没有任何关系。 相反,它只是和法语中m'aidez “帮助我”或短语 venez m'aider “来帮助我”的后半部分的读音相同的一种拼写, 均适用于指紧要关头〔sound〕To try to learn the attitudes or opinions of:试探、询问:试图得知某人的态度或观点:〔inquisitive〕from Latin inquīsītus [past participle of] inquīrere [to inquire] * see inquire 源自 拉丁语 inquīsītus inquīrere的过去分词 [询问] * 参见 inquire〔quest〕ultimately from Latin quaesta [feminine past participle of] quaerere [to seek, ask] 最终源自 拉丁语 quaesta quaerere的阴性过去分词 [追求,询问] 〔debrief〕To question to obtain knowledge or intelligence gathered especially on a military mission.打听情报:盘问、询问以获得消息或情报,尤指关于军事任务的情况〔trick〕Used to make a friendly inquiry about a person or that person's affairs.怎么样:用来友好地询问某人的情况或事务
