单词 造成
释义 〔Mammon〕Often mammon Material wealth regarded as having an evil influence. 常作 mammon 贪财:被认为会造成不良影响的物质财富〔powerful〕In the upper southern United States the wordspowerful and mighty are intensives used frequently like the adverb very : Your boy's grown powerful big.The new baby is mighty purty.Powerfulis used as an adjective in some expressions: The storm did a powerful lot of harm. In the same dialect regionthe nounpower has, in addition to its standard meaning, the sense of "a large number or amount.”This sense appears in theOxford English Dictionary as common in dialectal British English of the 18th and 19th centuries: "It has done a power of work" (Charles Dickens). All these derivative senses ofpower and might take advantage of the notion of strength inherent in these nouns, making them natural intensives. Colloquial English is always on the lookout for ways to make language more vivid with new intensives. We think of the upper southern part of the United States as linguistically conservative, but in fact it has preserved uses ofpower, powerful, and mighty that were innovative in their time. 我们认为美国中南部在语言的使用上是很保守的,但事实上,这部分地区却保留了在当时十分创新的power, powerful 及 mighty 的用法 〔fitness〕The state or condition of being physically fit, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition.健康:尤指因锻炼和合适营养造成的生理上的健康状况〔wear〕Gradual impairment or diminution resulting from use or attrition.穿破,磨损:因使用或磨损造成的逐渐损坏或减少〔tsunami〕A very large ocean wave caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption.海啸:由海底地震或火山喷发而造成的巨大海浪〔relieve〕 Allay suggests relief at least for the time being from what is burdensome or painful: Allay 意味着至少是暂时从造成负担或痛苦的事物中解脱出来: 〔BT〕A bacterium, lethal to and used to control many kinds of caterpillars that are pests of ornamental, crop, and other plants.BT菌:一种致命细菌,可用来杀死或抑制各种造成观赏植物、庄稼和其它植物虫害的毛虫〔sin〕A condition of estrangement from God resulting from such disobedience.由于这种违抗造成的与上帝疏离的状态〔lose〕To cause or result in the loss of:导致…的丧失:造成…的损失,以…的损失为结果:〔vibriosis〕A venereal infection in cattle and sheep caused by the bacteriumVibrio fetus, often producing infertility or spontaneous abortion. 弧菌病:由弧菌体 病菌引起的牛和羊的一种性传染疾病,经常会造成不能生育或自动流产 〔fake〕Having a false or misleading appearance; fraudulent.假的:有假的或造成误导的外表的;不真实的〔dismay〕Appall implies a sense of helplessness caused by an awareness of the enormity of something: Appall 含有一种由于某事物的暴虐而造成的无助感: 〔pulse〕The rhythmical throbbing of arteries produced by the regular contractions of the heart, especially as palpated at the wrist or in the neck.脉搏:尤在腕部和颈部可感觉到的由心脏有规律的收缩造成的动脉有节奏的跳动〔wolf〕To avoid the privation and suffering resulting from a lack of money:免于穷困:为避免穷困和由于缺钱而造成的痛苦:〔blunder〕A usually serious mistake typically caused by ignorance or confusion.大错:典型地由于无知和粗心造成的大错〔creep〕A slow change in a characteristic of electronic equipment, such as a decrease in power with continued usage.蠕变:电子仪器的特性参数的缓慢变化,如由于连续使用而造成的功率下降〔ax〕Ax, a common nonstandard variant of ask, is often identified as an especially salient feature of African American Vernacular English. While it is true that the form is frequent in the speech of African Americans, it used to be common in the speech of white Americans as well, especially in New England. This should not be surprising since ax is a very old word in English, having been used in England for over 1,000 years. In Old English we find both āscian and ācsian, and in Middle English both asken and axen. Moreover, the forms with cs or x had no stigma associated with them. Chaucer used asken and axen interchangeably, as in the lines "I wol aske, if it hir will be/To be my wyf" and "Men axed hym, what sholde bifalle,” both from The Canterbury Tales. The forms in x arose from the forms in sk by a linguistic process called metathesis, in which two sounds are reversed. The x thus represents (ks), the flipped version of (sk). Metathesis is a common linguistic process around the world and does not arise from a defect in speaking. Nevertheless, ax has become stigmatized as substandard—a fate that has befallen other words, like ain't, that were once perfectly acceptable in literate circles. ask 的一般非标准变体 ax 常被认为是美国黑人英语极为显著的特色。尽管美国黑人在交谈中的确使用ax这种形式,但美国白人也在口语中普遍使用它,尤其是新英格兰的白人。不必对此表示惊奇,因为 ax 是个很古老的英语词汇,在英语中至少使用了1000年以上。古英语中有 āscian 和 ācsian, ,中古英语中有 asken 和 axen 。而且,带 cs 或 x 的形式同不好的含义无关。乔叟在下文中交替使用 asken 和 axen :"I wol aske, if it hir will be/To be my wyf(我问道,这是真是幻/将成为我的妻子)”和"Men axed hym, what sholde bifalle(人们问他,会降临什么)”,这两句话都出自 《坎特伯利故事集》 。带 sk 的形式经由 换位 的语言过程产生带 x 的形式,换位就是将两个音位置颠倒。因此 x 表示(ks)的发音,即(sk)的翻转发音。换位是世界通用的语言过程并且不会造成交谈中的欠缺。但 ax 已被记作非标准用法──同样降临在曾一度被知识界完全接受的其它单词(如 ain't )的命运 〔further〕considered further the consequences of her actions.更多地考虑她的行为所造成的后果〔regurgitate〕To cause to pour back, especially to cast up (partially digested food).反胃:造成回翻,特别是反胃(部分消化的食物)〔chinook〕A warm dry wind that descends from the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, causing a rapid rise in temperature.契努克风焚风:从落基山脉东坡吹下来的温暖干燥风,其会造成温度骤增〔extemporaneous〕Unpremeditated applies to action taken without prior thought or plan;often the term implies impulsiveness prompted by strong feeling: Unpremeditated 表示未经提前思考或计划而采取的行动;这个词常表示在强烈情感的怂恿下而造成的冲动: 〔vinous〕Affected or caused by the consumption of wine.嗜酒的:饮酒影响的或造成〔astrobleme〕A scar on the earth's surface left from the impact of a meteorite.陨星坑:陨石对地表冲击所造成的痕迹〔continuative〕Of, relating to, or serving to cause continuation.继续:继续的、与之有关的或有助于造成继续的〔erode〕To make or form by wearing away:腐蚀成:通过损耗造成或形成:〔gap〕A problematic situation resulting from such a disparity:差异所造成的困难状况:〔hoax〕Something that has been established or accepted by fraudulent means.骗局:用欺骗的手段造成的形势〔torticollis〕A contracted state of the neck muscles producing an unnatural position of the head.
